Out with the Old, In with the New

While driving around Oxford, you might notice that a few businesses have closed in the past few months. Of course, locals are sad about not having some of their “go-to’s” any longer, but it is safe to say - Oxford will make up for it. In the past 5 years, Oxford has expanded tremendously, but not all businesses have made it. The town has focused on bringing in new attractions to see what goes over well, and what might not. Even though Oxford may be saying goodbye to some long-loved businesses, the future looks great!

Some of the recent closings:

Excite!: The Pilates and Spin studio on the Square.

Landshark Delivery – Not CLOSED but you can find Landshark under a new name, Bite Squad. You can still receive numerous restaurants, even Oxford originals, straight to your doorstep. The ordering is done all online, www.bitesquad.com.

Salsaritas: The fresh Mexican restaurant on Jackson Avenue has closed, but a new Mexican restaurant, San Jose, has gone in the same location. The address is 1801 Jackson Avenue West, Oxford, MS 38655.

Brick and Spoon: The short lasting breakfast restaurant was full of southern flair. Brick and Spoon had a hard time competing with some of Oxford’s original breakfast diners.

Beagle Bagel: The scratch-traditional bagel restaurant has multiple locations in Mississippi. It was around for about 4 years, but now the closest locations are Jackson, Mississippi and Madison, Mississippi.

Next time you visit, check out these additions coming soon:

Dairy Queen:  The new Dairy Queen Grill and Chill will be opening soon in the former My Guys building on Jackson Avenue. Oxford is ready for Blizzard runs!

Waffle House: Students of the university begged for Waffle House to be added to Oxford. Oxford mayor, Robyn Tannehill, even tweeted with the corporation to let them know Oxford would be the perfect spot. We have heard that they will be opening in the Oxford Commons off Ed Perry Boulevard within the year.

The thing we might be the most excited about is Ole Coop!

Ole Coop:

Many Oxford students and locals were crushed when Coop Deville went under, but Ole Coop promises to serve the same wings and sandwiches as before. Ole Coop specializes in wings, subs, and salads.
